One shape, three trims
The Stonic is 4,165mm long on a 2,580mm wheelbase, which is small enough for a terraced street and tall enough to get into without folding yourself in half. Pure runs 16in alloys and halogen headlights. GT-Line and GT-Line S move to 17in alloys with GT-Line styling, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED front fog lights. Five colours, and White Pearl is the only one that costs nothing.
One engine, two gearboxes
Every UK Stonic runs the same engine: a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol, 998cc, 98bhp and 172Nm, driving the front wheels. What you choose is the gearbox. The six-speed manual is the quicker of the two, at 11.0 seconds to 62mph against 12.1 for the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both top out at 111mph.
Economy runs from 48.7 to 50.4mpg combined on the WLTP cycle, depending on trim, wheel size and gearbox. The best of them is the 'Pure' automatic on 16in wheels; the thirstiest is the GT-Line manual on 17in. CO2 sits between 127 and 132g/km, so first-year road tax is £455 on every version except the GT-Line manual, which crosses the 130g/km line and pays £560.
A 45-litre tank and a 10.4-metre turning circle. It will pull 900kg braked with a 75kg limit on the tow ball. Servicing is every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.
The Stonic's WLTP combined figures vary by trim, wheel size and gearbox: 49.5 and 50.4mpg on the 16in 'Pure', 48.7 and 49.5mpg on the 17in GT-Line, and 49.5mpg on the GT-Line S. CO2 runs from 127 to 132g/km. Kia quotes 0-62mph in 11.0 seconds for the manual and 12.1 for the automatic. What you actually see depends on how and where you drive.

A 12.3in touchscreen on every one
Touchscreen navigation is standard on all three trims, 'Pure' included, and so is seven years of Kia Connect. The driver gets a 4.2in display as standard; the 12.3in digital cluster that makes it a twin-screen cabin is a GT-Line S fitment.
What the top trim adds
Wireless charging, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, the Kia Digital Key and keyless entry with a start button are GT-Line S only. Drive Mode Select and the electronic parking brake with autohold come with the automatic on the other two trims.
Five seats and a 352-litre boot
Fold the rear bench and the boot goes from 352 litres to 1,155. The car is 4,165mm long and 1,760mm wide on a 2,580mm wheelbase, and it will tow 900kg braked. You get a tyre mobility kit rather than a spare wheel.

Pure

GT-Line

GT-Line S
Adds a tilt-and-slide sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, the Kia Digital Key, a 12.3in driver display, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Highway Driving Assist.
Premium paint is £600, and White Pearl is the only one of the five colours that does not carry it. Insurance is group 11E for the 'Pure' manual and 10E for the 'Pure' automatic; Kia has not yet published a group for GT-Line or GT-Line S.
