Two looks, three trims
Every Picanto gets body-coloured bumpers, sills, wheel arches and door mirrors, and a silver window surround. From there the range splits. Pure runs 14in alloys, halogen headlights and bulb rear lights. GT-Line and GT-Line S get 16in alloys, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED rear lights, a gloss black grille and privacy glass on the rear windows and tailgate. Seven colours, and Clear White is the only one that costs nothing.
One engine, two gearboxes
The UK Picanto comes one way under the bonnet: a 1.0-litre GDi petrol, 998cc, 67bhp, 96Nm. What you choose is the gearbox. The five-speed manual is both the cheaper and the quicker of the two, at 14.6 seconds to 60mph against 17.2 for Kia's five-speed automated manual. Both top out at 100mph.
The 'Pure' manual on 14in wheels returns 52.3mpg combined on the WLTP cycle; the automated manual on 16in manages 48.7mpg. Everything else in the line-up falls between those two figures. CO2 ranges from 122g/km to 132g/km, so first-year road tax is either £455 or £560 depending on which version you go for.
A 35-litre tank and a 9.4-metre turning circle. Servicing is every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.
The Picanto's WLTP combined figures vary by wheel size and gearbox: 52.3 and 51.4mpg on 14in wheels, 49.6 and 48.7mpg on 16in. CO2 runs from 122–132g/km depending on the derivative. Kia quotes 0–60mph in 14.6 seconds for the manual, 17.2 for the automated manual. What you actually see depends on how and where you drive.

An 8in touchscreen on every one
Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and a USB media port are standard on all three trims, Pure included, along with seven years of Kia Connect. The front passenger gets a USB-C charging port. GT-Line adds one in the back and GT-Line S adds a wireless charging pad.
A 4.2in screen in front of the driver
The driver display is standard across the range, and so is the safety kit behind it: cruise control, a speed limiter, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Follow Assist, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Five seats and a 255-litre boot
The rear bench splits 60:40 and folds, which takes the boot from 255 litres to 1,010. There is a luggage board, net hooks and a 12V socket up front. You get a tyre mobility kit rather than a spare wheel.

Adds a tilt-and-slide sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, automatic air conditioning, wireless charging and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.
