The Kia K4

A hatchback that does not look like the others
Kia gave the K4 a low roof and a long body, then hid the rear door handles in the C-pillar so the side reads as one clean line. The front is wide and flat, with what Kia calls its Star Map light signature above LED cube projector headlights. At the back the tail lights are an inverted L on either side of a full-width bar, under a sculpted roof spoiler and over a diffuser-style bumper.
Wheels are 16in on Pure, 17in on GT-Line, and 17in or 18in on GT-Line S — the 18s come with the 1.6-litre engine. GT-Line and GT-Line S add gloss black door mirrors and grille, black side sills and privacy glass on the rear windows and tailgate.
Seven colours
White Pearl is the standard paint. The other six are premium finishes, and two of them — Sparkling Yellow and Moonlight Mint — are only offered on GT-Line and GT-Line S. Kia has not published the premium paint price for the K4, so ask us for it when you ask for a quote.
Inside
The dashboard is one wide horizontal line with the screens set into it and a physical row of climate and media buttons beneath. Kia quotes up to 438 litres of boot space, with 60:40 split rear seats, a luggage board and net hooks on every trim.
Three screens across the dash
A 12.3in driver display, a 5.3in climate screen and a 12.3in navigation touchscreen sit in one run — Kia calls it the triple panoramic display. All three are standard on every K4, as are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Four USB-C ports: one for media, two up front, two in the back.
Heated, ventilated, lit
GT-Line adds heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. GT-Line S adds ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats, black artificial leather and a tilt-and-slide sunroof. The ambient lighting shifts with the drive mode.
Updates itself, and your phone is the key
Every K4 takes over-the-air software updates and comes with seven years of Kia Connect services. On GT-Line S, Digital Key 2.0 turns a compatible phone or watch into the key and lets you share it through the Kia app.
Three trims
Kia UK sells the K4 in petrol and 48V mild hybrid form, manual or automatic, and publishes a starting price for each trim. It has not yet published a full price guide for the car, so the exact engine and gearbox combinations are priced when you ask us for a quote — we will not guess at them here.
Pure
LED headlights and rear lights, automatic headlights, heated and electrically adjusted mirrors, black cloth seats, automatic air conditioning, all three screens with navigation, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
GT-Line
GT-Line exterior and interior styling, gloss black grille and mirrors, privacy glass, cloth and artificial leather seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, electric driver’s seat with lumbar support, alloy pedals, wireless phone charger and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.
GT-Line S
Tilt-and-slide sunroof, black artificial leather, ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats, eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound, Digital Key 2.0, smart key with motion sensor and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0. The 18in wheels come with the 1.6-litre engine.
Starting-from prices are Kia UK’s for each trim and include delivery, number plates, 12 months’ vehicle excise duty and the first registration fee. Kia UK lists the K4’s P11D value from £26,285 and a 31% benefit-in-kind rate. Premium paint is an option on all three trims; Kia has not published its price. Every K4 comes with Kia’s seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty — unlimited mileage for the first three years — plus a five-year paint warranty and 12 years against perforation. On mild hybrid cars the 48V and 12V batteries are covered for two years from first registration regardless of mileage.
K4 Sportswagon
Kia has announced an estate version of the K4 with a longer body and more boot. No UK price, specification or date has been published yet, so there is nothing to order. Leave your details and we will tell you when there is.
