Low, wide and 4,430mm long
The Air and the Motion measure 4,430mm long, 1,860mm wide and 1,485mm tall. GT-Line and GT-Line S add 20mm of length and change nothing else. Air and Motion run 17-inch alloys on 215/60 tyres; GT-Line and GT-Line S move to 19s on 215/50s, with GT-Line styling, privacy glass and flush door handles that present themselves as you walk up.
Fusion White is the standard paint. Phantom Black, Magma Red and Blue Flame are £650 including VAT, and the two GT-Line trims add Wolf Grey.

388 miles in the hatchback, 380 in the Fastback
The 58.3kWh battery is fitted to the Air SR and nothing else, and it is rated at 273 miles. Every other EV4 runs the 81.4kWh pack. That does 388 miles in the Air on 17-inch wheels, 362 in the GT-Line and in both GT-Line S derivatives, and 380 miles in all three Fastbacks. Most of the spread is wheel size rather than battery: the 388-mile car is the one on 17s.
Kia's price guide and Kia's specification page disagree about the Motion, at 388 miles and 362 miles. We are not publishing a figure for that trim until Kia settles it.
Both packs charge at 400 volts and 127kW is the most the car will take. On a DC rapid delivering that, 10 to 80 per cent is 31 minutes on the 81.4kWh battery and 29 minutes on the 58.3kWh. On a 50kW unit it is 79 and 55 minutes. On a 230-volt 16-amp AC supply, 10 to 100 per cent takes 7 hours 15 minutes and 5 hours 20 minutes. Kia asks for a 400-volt charger rated above 127kW to see the quickest times.
The drive train is the same in every EV4, hatchback and Fastback: a 150kW permanent-magnet motor making 201bhp and 283Nm, front wheel drive, single-speed automatic. 0-62mph is 7.5 seconds in the Air SR, 7.7 in the 81.4kWh Air on 17s and 7.9 seconds in everything else. Top speed is 105mph.

Kia's own note on the EV4 is that the technical data is a set of expected targets, pending further development and homologation, and that all figures are subject to change.
One cabin, whichever shape you pick
Five seats, and 435 litres behind them in the hatchback. Braked towing is 1,000kg on the 81.4kWh cars and 500kg on the 58.3kWh Air SR, with 100kg on the tow ball and 80kg on the roof. The turning circle is 10.86 metres.
Twin 12.3-inch screens, and the climate kept its own
Every EV4 gets a 12.3-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for navigation and a 5.3-inch panel between them for the climate control. The heating stays on its own screen rather than three taps into a menu.
Kia Connect, included for seven years
Kia Connect services run for seven years from first sale. Motion brings a blind-spot view monitor, a 360-degree surround view monitor and parking collision-avoidance assist. GT-Line S carries the 360-degree camera too, with a smart power tailgate.
Heated from the entry trim upwards
Air has heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Motion adds heated outer rear seats and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon system. GT-Line S heats front and rear, ventilates the front pair and fits premium relaxation seats. GT-Line is trimmed in two-tone artificial leather.
The Fastback: 280mm longer, 55 litres deeper
The Fastback is the same width as the hatchback, 5mm lower and 280mm longer than the GT-Line. The extra length goes into the boot: 490 litres against 435. It is sold in GT-Line and GT-Line S only, always with the 81.4kWh battery and always on 19-inch wheels. There is no 17-inch option and no 58.3kWh Fastback. All three derivatives are rated at 380 miles and 7.9 seconds to 62mph.
The Electric Car Grant does not reach it. Kia's hatchback price table has a grant column and the Fastback table does not have one at all, so the on-the-road prices are what you pay: £40,945 for the GT-Line, £45,445 for the GT-Line S and £46,345 with the heat pump.

Both cutouts are Kia's own trim-card images, shot at the same angle under the same light. They are not the same colour, so the thing to compare is the tail: the hatchback finishes upright, the Fastback rakes back over a longer deck.

Nine derivatives, and the grant reaches three of them
The £3,750 Electric Car Grant comes off the Air SR, the Air and the Motion. It does not apply to the GT-Line, to either GT-Line S, or to any Fastback. Every EV4 is front wheel drive with a single-speed automatic and 201bhp.
Kia lists the hatchback trims Air, GT-Line, Motion, GT-Line S, and that is not price order. The Motion costs £1,050 more than the GT-Line on the road and £2,700 less once the grant is applied, so which of the two is the cheaper car depends on whether you qualify for it.
Air
17-inch alloys, a 12.3-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch navigation touchscreen, a 5.3-inch climate screen, and heated front seats and steering wheel. The only trim offered with the 58.3kWh battery.
GT-Line
Adds 19-inch alloys with GT-Line styling, two-tone artificial leather upholstery, automatic flush door handles and privacy glass.
Motion
Adds heated outer rear seats, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon system, a blind-spot view monitor, a 360-degree surround view monitor and parking collision-avoidance assist.
GT-Line S
Adds heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, premium relaxation seats, a 360-degree surround view monitor and a smart power tailgate.
