A small SUV that stands up straight
The Air measures 4,300mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,560mm tall; the 19-inch cars add 10mm to each of length and height. Vertical LED lamps at both ends, squared-off arches and a flat roofline give it presence without extra metal. Air runs 17-inch alloys with body-coloured mirrors, sills and arches. GT-Line and GT-Line S move to 19s, gloss black trim and flush door handles that present themselves.
Two batteries, neither of them small
The 58.3kWh Standard Range is rated at 270 miles. The 81.4kWh Long Range does 375 miles in the Air, 367 in the GT-Line and 362 in the GT-Line S. That spread is the wheels rather than the battery: the Air rides on 17s, the GT-Line cars on 19s.
Both charge at 400 volts. On a DC rapid delivering 128kW the Long Range goes from 10 to 80 per cent in 31 minutes, and the Standard Range takes 29 minutes at 101kW. Kia asks for a 400-volt charger rated at 150kW or more to see those times. On an 11kW home or workplace charger, 10 to 100 per cent is 7 hours 15 minutes for the Long Range and 5 hours 20 minutes for the Standard Range. Vehicle-to-Load, which turns the car into a three-pin socket for your own kit, is fitted on GT-Line and above.

Inside, it behaves like a bigger car
Three screens, and physical switches left alone
Every EV3 gets a 12.3-inch driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen for navigation, with a 5.3-inch panel between them for the climate control. The heating and the volume kept real controls, so you are not diving into a menu to demist the screen.
Updates over the air, connected for seven years
Maps and vehicle software update over the air, and Kia Connect services are included for seven years from first sale. GT-Line adds a wireless charging pad; GT-Line S adds Digital Key, so a compatible phone locks, unlocks and starts the car.
460 litres behind the seats, 25 under the bonnet
The boot holds 460 litres with all five seats up, and there is a 25-litre frunk for the charging cables so they are not rolling around on top of the shopping. Braked towing is 1,000kg on the Long Range and 500kg on the Standard Range.
Three trims, and a grant that stops at two of them
The Government’s £1,500 Electric Car Grant comes off the Air and the GT-Line. It does not apply to either GT-Line S. Every EV3 is front wheel drive with a single-speed automatic and 201bhp.
Air
Twin 12.3-inch screens, heated front seats and steering wheel, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, six speakers, grey cloth.
GT-Line
Adds LED headlights with adaptive beam, privacy glass, wireless charging, ambient lighting, automatic flush door handles, a three-pin socket and Vehicle-to-Load.
GT-Line S
Adds ventilated front and heated rear seats, memory driver’s seat, 360-degree camera, blind-spot view monitor, remote parking, power tailgate, head-up display, tilt/slide sunroof and 8-speaker Harman Kardon.

Kia’s guide notes that the Expensive Car Supplement applies to cars with a P11D over £40,000: both GT-Line S derivatives are over it on list price alone, and the GT-Line sits £610 under, so paint or accessories can take it past.
